Message from the Artistic Director

Dorothy Sandler-Glick —Artistic Director

Dear Friends,

It is with much pleasure that I welcome you to the 2008-2009 Syrinx Sunday Salons. This is our 4th season under the Syrinx banner. Our mission is to encourage and promote Canadian composers and performers.

Dorothy GlickEach year we present different chamber works by our featured composer, integrated within a more familiar repertoire. I am thrilled to see a continued growth in our audience and a wider appreciation of the distinctive format of our series. This year we are very pleased to present the chamber works of André Prévost, one of Canada’s most respected composers.

M. Prévost has received much acclaim throughout the world for his powerfully moving and wellcrafted compositions. His Cantata for Strings was the first Francophone work commissioned by Sir Yehudi Menuhin. This collaboration became a CBC documentary: “Menuhin –Prévost: A Creative Adventure” and won the Prix Italia. I hope you also feel our unique mission is extremely important to the future of Canadian music.

There are numerous expenses entailed in producing the Syrinx Sunday Salons including hall rental, performers fees, engineering, receptions for both artists and audience, brochures, web pages, publicity and the usual administration costs. All donations are much appreciated, and each donation over $25 will receive a tax receipt and will be acknowledged in the program (unless otherwise preferred). Thank you for your continuing support.
