Highlighting the music of composer André Prévost

This year, Syrinx is proud to highlight the music of André Prévost. Each Sunday Salon will feature at least one work by the composer, along with other classics of chamber music.

Musica Camerata Montreal

Hailed as Canada’s foremost chamber music ensemble, Musica Camerata Montreal was created in 1970 by its founding members, Berta Rosenohl and Luis Grinhauz. The ensemble is devoted to the music of Canadian composers and they have premiered numerous compositions. CamerataTheir repertoire includes 250 works from the 18th to 21st Century and they have received both public and critical acclaim for the high quality of their performances. They have toured throughout Canada, the U.S., Costa Rica, Argentina, and have made a number of recordings.

Winona Zelenka-cellist, is a dedicated recitalist and chamber musician who plays regularly for Toronto music series. She has been acting principal cellist of the TSO since 2004 and is also assistant principal cellist of the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra. Ms. Zelenka is featured as solo cellist in several films, including “Being Julia”, and the Atom Egoyan film “Adoration”.

Music Toronto’s String Quartet in Residence 07/08. “…none seems to outshine the Quatuor Arthur–Leblanc.” Ottawa Citizen.

Quatuor Arthur- Leblanc, (violinists Hibiki Kobayashi and Brett Molzan, violist Jean-Luc Plourde and cellist Ryan Molzan) is widely recognized as one of Canada’s finest string ensembles. They recently made their debut at Carnegie Hall. Since 2005 the Quatuor Arthur-Leblanc became quartet in residence at Laval University in Quebec City. In 2007-08 they were quartet in residence for Music Toronto.

Melanie Conly - soprano, performs regularly at international music festivals and solos often with orchestral and choral organizations. She is noted for her compelling stage presence and dramatic flare.

Peter Longworth - piano, is a well known and acclaimed solo performer, chamber musician and teacher in Canada and abroad. He has performed in major cities in the U.S. and Canada and is heard often on CBC National Radio.

Christian Prévost-violin, has been a member of the I Musici de Montreal since 1985, touring with them extensively in Asia, Europe, and North and South America. He has participated in more than 45 recordings. He is the son of this year’s featured composer, André Prévost.

Alain AubutAlain Aubut-cello, is a founding member of the chamber music orchestra, I Musici de Montreal, with whom he has given concerts throughout the world. He has participated in more than 46 discs for Chandos Records and Analekta. Many of these recordings feature M. Aubut as cello soloist.

Richard Raymond-piano, has won virtually every award there is to win in Canada. He was only the 2nd Canadian to win the prestigious Richard RaymondMontreal International Competition. Shortly afterwards, he won the Chamber Music Prize at the Van Cliburn Competition. He is currently Associate Professor at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal.
