Celebrating the work of Anton kuerti

This year, Syrinx is proud to highlight the music of Anton Kuerti . Each Sunday Salon will feature at least one work by the Canadian composer, along with other classics of chamber music.

Rea BeaumontRea Beaumont, piano with guest Kelly Tiernay, flute

Rea Beaumont’s performances have been described as “superb”, and “dramatic and captivating”. Dr. Beaumont studied in Canada and New York. She has her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance, her Masters of Music, Bachelor of Music in Education and A.R.C.T. Recently the CBC commissioned Juno-Award winner composer Chan Ka Nin to write a work for her.

Kelly Tiernay is completing her Bachelor of Music in Performance. She is the 2nd flute and piccolo with the Hamilton Philharmonic.

  • Kuerti: “6 Arrows”
  • A program of French impressionists: Debussy, Roussel, and Ravel.

Duke Triospecial concert with
The Duke Trio

The Duke Trio is “...everything you would want in a piano trio and as far as musical integrity goes, more.” Winnipeg Free Press

Mark Fewer is “...one of the most unique and creative voices of this generation;” Thomas Weibe “...performs with ease that brightens and elucidates;” and Peter Longworth is “... a remarkable chamber musician and soloist who performs with warmth and intelligence.”

This special concert is presented as an addition to our regular season.

CerberusThe Cerberus Ensemble

The Cerberus Ensemble was founded by David Visentin, violist/violinist and his wife, Hiroko Kagawa, violinist, teacher. They are joined this year by Kai Gleusteen, Concertmaster of “Gran Teatre del Liceo” of Barcelona (”his playing combined crackling bravura and soaring lyricism”); Catherine Ordronneau, graduate from Ecole Normale in Paris with a Diplome Superieur d’Execution (”she has a masterful technique and remarkable musical intelligence”); and Igor Gefter (”a performer of insightful and masterful interpretations excelling in all aspects of cello playing”). Catherine Cosbey is "one of Canada's finest young musicians --- a maturity beyond her years."

Peter LongworthPeter Longworth, piano

Peter Longworth is “...a concert pianist of such power and grace even the crystal baubles on the chandeliers at Orchestral Hall tingle, dance and resonate.” Chicago Tribune.

Peter Longworth has performed throughout Canada, the U.S. and Europe, as a soloist in recital and with orchestra and chamber groups. He is a founding member of the Duke Trio. Peter performs in many Music Festivals including the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival and Icicle Creek Festival. He was a finalist in the Busoni Piano Competition in Italy. Presently Peter Longworth teaches at the Royal Conservatory of Music, is a chamber coach and adjudicator, and continues with his busy performance schedule.

Angela ParkMade In Canada

Four leading young Canadians make up this quartet which was awarded a 2006 CBC Galaxie Rising Stars Award. Angela Park is a grand prize winner at the Grace Welsh International Piano Competition and the World Piano Competition; Judy Kang is a CBC grand prize winner, and top prize winner at the Kreisler and Naumburg International Violin Competitions; Sharon Wei is a prize winner at the Washington International Competition and National Scholar; and Denise Djokic is the winner of an East Coast Music Award and a featured performer at the Grammy Awards.

Shalom Bard, two time winner of the Chalmers Award, has been a soloist with the TSO, the St. Lawrence String Quartet and the Duke Trio.Mr. Bard was invited by Zubin Mehta to be Acting Principal Clarinetist of the Israeli Philharmonic. He is on the faculty of the RCM.

KuertiRafael Hoekman won 1st prize at Orford and is a member of the TOKAI String Quartet which recently toured the Atlantic Provinces. In 2006 he toured Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia for Jeunesses Musicales.

Anton Kuerti is known throughout the world as an outstanding pianist, composer, and teacher. He has mastered an enormous repertoire and performed with most of the major North American Orchestras.
